Monday Getaway: Killer Frost

This week's Monday Getaway is Killer Frost, the final book in the Mythos Academy Series, by Jennifer Estep.

You were probably expecting Volume Two of Soul Screamers. Rest assured it's coming, but I didn't get to finish it this week.

Because I read so much, I couldn't possibly afford to feed my habit as much as I do. I'd go broke. Fast. And that includes the gift cards my wonderful family habitually give me. It's one of my fave gifts to be given.
"Because I read so much, I couldn't possibly afford to feed my habit as much as I do."

How am I able to read so much? I use the Overdrive App and it's synced with my library, so I'm able to check out books without actually going. It's the best thing since slice bread.

Anyway, I had checked out some books on Voodoo to research for the book I wrote for JuNoWriMo. I was out of town when they came due and forgot to renew online, so they were overdue. Because of this, it froze my online check-outs also. I paid my dues, and everything's fine now, but it was a few days.

I had read the Mythos Academy Series a few months ago. I read most of the books from the library, but because the publisher is not one of the BIG SIX NOW FIVE publishers the newest releases take a while before it hits the libraries for good reasons, so I had used those magnificent gift cards I save up for series like this one. It had been sitting on my Nook for some time now, and I was reluctant, yet excited to finish it.

"I dread reading the last book."
This is what happens when I can't finish a series right away. I dread reading the last book. Like the Sookie Stackhouse Series. I've read every book, but I've yet to read the last. The last book is so, well, final. I know I'll either be really disappointed in the ending, or I'll love the ending. Both make me sad that I have to say good-bye to characters I've come to know, and I can't change the outcome.

All I'm gonna say about Killer Frost is that I was sad to say good-bye, but the ending was a gratifying one, in my humble opinion.

A little note on this series in case you've never heard of it:

Gwen Frost is a descendant from gypsies and has psychometry, touch magic. After an incident at her public school and her mother's death, she is sent to a private school nearby. This school helps teach students who are descendants to ancient lines of people: Spartans, Vikings, gypsies, Amazons, etc. They teach them how to fight, handle their magic, and honor the gods that their people believe in, who happen to be real. The rest you'll have to read to find out.

I'd compare it as a cross between the Vampire Academy and Percy Jackson Series. If you like either of those, this may interest you.

Here's the blurb for the last and final book, Killer Frost:

I've battled the Reapers of Chaos before—and survived. But this time I have a Bad, Bad Feeling it's going to be a fight to the death. . .most likely mine.Yeah, I've got my psychometry magic, my talking sword, Vic, and even the most dangerous Spartan on campus at my side in Logan freaking Quinn, but I'm no match for Loki, the evil Norse god of chaos. I may be Nike's Champion, but at heart, I'm still just Gwen Frost, that weird Gypsy girl everyone at school loves to gossip about.
Then someone I love is put in more danger than ever before, and something inside me snaps. This time, Loki and his Reapers are going down for good . . . or I am.
